The circular route travels along forest roads and through idyllic villages. Sections of the route run along larger roads. A part of the route also crosses the regional border to Pirkanmaa. In Kalajärvi in Peräseinäjoki, you can find accommodation on a campsite or in a cottage. Kalajärvi Resort also offers a wide range of activities for a longer stay.
In Peräseinäjoki, you can also learn more about the region’s interesting history at the Finnish Emigrant Museum. The World of Trails Heritage Park on the shore of Alajärvi offers an introduction to the lives and experiences of Finnish emigrants in various parts of the world. The museum area’s first building, the Hakala ‘American’ House, opened to the public in the summer of 2008. At the Hakala House, visitors can learn about migration to the US and the life of Matti Hakala and his offspring. Other buildings in the area include a sugar caners’ barrack received from Queensland, Australia, as a donation; the Matti Unkuri house, a log house from Siberia, and the Knuuttila house from Canada.
Alavus is home to Art Gallery Harri, which hosts an exhibition of Arabia’s milk jugs, an exhibition on composer Toivo Kuula, an exhibition of Matti Annala’s works and a veterans’ memorial room, in addition to changing summer exhibitions.
We start the directions for this route at Kalajärvi Resort, which is 2.7 km away from the centre of Peräseinäjoki along Kalajärventie. From the first large crossroads, turn left by the church onto Keskustie (Road 694). Cycle for 3.3 km, then turn left onto Luomantie. Continue for 2.8 km along Luomantie, then turn left onto Kantolantie and from there turn onto Peränevantie after just 600 m. After 4.1 km, the name of the road changes to Luomantie. Carry on straight for 12.8 km, and the name of the road changes again, to Juupakyläntie this time. You are now in Juupakylä, after passing Juupajärvi lake.
At the next crossroads, turn right onto Hirviharjuntie and stay on this road for 5.6 km. Then, take a left onto Sulkavankyläntie and continue for about 9 km. After this, turn right onto Koskipääntie, which changes its name to Sulkavantie at the border of South Ostrobothnia and Pirkanmaa. This stretch is 9.5 km long. When Sulkavantie comes to an end, turn left onto Road 66 and cycle for 1.5 km before taking a right onto a smaller road. This road is the second smaller road on the right. After 750 m, turn onto Rimmintie and stay on this road for 3 km until you reach a crossroads, where you turn right onto Sapsalammintie. Cycle for 4 km until you reach the next crossroads, where you turn right onto Nesteentie and continue for a couple of kilometres until you arrive at Virtaintie (Road 66). Travel along this larger road for 5 km and turn onto Jokivarrentie for 6.6 km, before returning to Road 66. There is a cycle path along this stretch. Cycle for 2 km and then turn left. You are now on Isokaari, which takes you to the Kuulantie crossroads (1.3 km away), where you turn left and cycle for a kilometre to Road 18. Stay on this road for 25 km all the way back to Kalajärvi. After 9 km, the road number changes to 672.
