The Kungsleden, or "King's Trail," is a remote hiking route in northern Sweden, stretching 100-400 km through one of Europe's least populated areas. It's a challenging trek suitable only for experienced hikers due to its wild and isolated terrain.
Proper preparation is essential. Hikers should follow a packing list like the one provided by Fjällräven, covering essentials such as clothing, shelter, and food. Wildlife sightings are common, but hikers should keep a safe distance from animals.
Huts are available every 15-30 km, offering basic supplies, but they only operate from mid-June to mid-September. Outside this period, hikers need to be fully self-sufficient.
We completed the Fjällräven Classic route, hiking approximately 110 km from Nikkaluokta to Abisko in 5 days.
We flew from Vienna, Austria, to Stockholm, Sweden, and then on to Kiruna on August 20, 2024. From there, we took the Nikkaluoktaexpressen to Nikkaluokta, arriving at 16:40.
